Has anyone ever taken this for a Uti while Pregnant? well im 26weeks 4days pregnant and my doctor gave me Cephalexin 500mg i have to take it 4times a day for a UTI i only have to take it for a week but i was just wondering has anyone else ever taken this?

Suzanna replied: "I know you can take cephalexin while pregnant but I didn't know you could use it to treat a UTI."

trigsgirljomama replied: "yep.. had utis the entire pregnancy all through it. was put on macrobid, ceph. and other things."

chrissykaila replied: "I took Cephalexin 500mg when I was 39 weeks along. My doctor told me it can have slight affects on the fetus but a UTI could have greater side affects to you and your fetus if left untreated. It is definitely better to take it earlier in pregnancy than later though. I was told that after 38 weeks it will have greater effect on a fetus and is not usually recommended, but then again so do most medicines as the fetus absorbs more in the final weeks. You'll be fine though, I took it late and had absolutely no problems. Everything cleared up just in time for my little one to come."

Possibly pregnant, is cephalexin safe to take? I am on cephalexin (generic for Keflex) for a UTI. I am also breastfeeding my 4 month old baby and the doctor told me this antibiotic is safe to take while breastfeeding. I know exactly when I received the UTI and without too much information, my hubby and I have been using condoms since I'm nursing and don't want to take bc pills, and the condom was "lost" afterwards. We found it and needless to say, it definitely didn't do its job, ha. Anyway, this all happened on the 15th of this month, and because of what happened there is a possibility that I could have gotten pregnant. So my question is...if I did get prego, I would be one week pregnant right now while taking this antibiotic...would this cause any harm? Thanks I have to take the antibiotics for one week by the way, so I have 5 days left. Also, the chance of me being prego is very slim (I think) since I'm exclusively breastfeeding and my baby is only 4 months old AND this has only happened one time...oh and my cycle has NOT returned yet...

Krissy replied: "It's not high on the list of bad drugs. You do know that breastfeeding doesn't stop ovulation, right? You won't have a period, but you still ovulate so you can get pregnant. It takes one time to get pregnant."

McKinney replied: "I was given that medication WHEN I was pregnant. The doctor told me that it was the safest one. I had a sinus infection so you should be OK! Congrats....maybe?"

Shano replied: "yes. i took it while pregnant and while nursing, its one of the safe ones to take while pregnant and nursing. good luck!"

Aren W replied: "Its safe to take it, but that stuff cephalexin and keflex, gives me a MEAN yeast infection. Its so bad, I started telling doctors I'm allergic to it so that they'll give me something else. lol"

Is it safe to take antibiotics while pregnant? I have been very sick this past week and my doctor prescribed antibiotics on Monday. I just found out today that I am pregnant (two positive tests). My doctor isn't in until Monday but I'm wondering if it's safe to continue taking the antibiotics or should I discontinue until Monday when I can talk with my doctor? I originally had strep throat which cleared up but then I got an upper respiratory infection, which I still have. I'm taking Cephalexin 500 mg 3x's a day, which is generic for Keflex 500 mg. Also, up until this morning I was taking OTC Mucinex, Ibuprofen and cough syrup as well. I stopped taking those meds after I got my positive result but could it have caused damage so far? I am about 4 weeks pregnant. Prego nurse- my doc didn't know I was pregnant when he prescribed them. I didn't even find out I was pregnant until today.

saracol4 replied: "Call the ER and ask the dr. there."

PregO Nurse 18 weeks replied: "Well I don't think you should second guess you're doctor as long as the doctor who prescribed them to you knew that you were pregnant. I don't see what the problem is. Doctors are way more highly trained than anyone across america sitting on yahoo answers."

arianasmommy69 replied: "go to a walk in clinic if you can but as far as i know some not all antibiotics are ok but you need to check( i was on some when i was about 3 months preg)"

mummy of 2.5 replied: "I would not take them until you ring up and ask the doctor about them. There are antibiotics that are safe for pregnancy because I had to take some."

Mom of 4-to-be replied: "Call your pharmacist immediately. They can answer questions about safe medications during pregnancy and whether to hold off on anything you've been prescribed."

brown_13_eyezz replied: "ask a dr."

Toots replied: "I'd stop taking everything. I haven't been pregnant for a while, but I know when I was, there wasn't many meds at all that you could take. Only certain OTC pain medications, and only certain OTC cold medications. I understand you probably feel awful, but Monday isn't that far away. Call the hospital or something and ask them if you'd like. I'd just wait and talk with OBGYN if I were you. You don't want to do anything that can harm the baby."

j_dub_karat replied: "Ask this question on Web MD and see what answer you get. I'm no physician so I wouldn't know what to tell you. Congrats on the pregnancy!"

Needing drugs while pregnant..pleas help mommies? I was prescribed Macrobid for a UTI..well I took one pill and it made my heart race sooo fast. And then I didn't feel my daughter move for like a whole day and 1/2 so I did not take it again. So I called my doctor. Well then he gave me Cephalexin. Well I did some reading up on it and didn't like too much what I read. Has anyone taken this with there pregnancy?? How was your baby..how did it make you feel? I don't want to get a scare like I did with the other meds... OH and im 30 weeks I posted this in a different section thinking I would get a different opinion..as in mothers who have taken this during there pregnancy...

Angela replied: "why did you post this agian?"

kraines712 replied: "Have you tried lots of cranberry juice?"

AmberWh replied: "try the azo cranberry pills."

And yes for now ive bought the no sugar regular cranberry juice and drink almost a bottle a day with water, oh and I got yougert too.,....but I just dont want my bladder infection to turn into a kidney infection, cause then it could really hurt her

Katie R replied: "honestly just drink lots of cranberry juice and water til you feel like throwing up all those pills sound way to risky"

Texter13 replied: "Try to stay away from pills while you are pregnant. Anything (pill) can react to different women in different ways. Don't put you and your daughter in danger. Type something a little less harmful or just skip them pills."

Angela replied: "i have taken both of those antibiotics and have had no problems. your dr wouldnt have given them to you if he thought they would hurt your baby. having a UTI and not taking care of it would do more damage then the antibiotics"

Kelley replied: "Unfortunately, if you don't take one of them to get rid of the infection they can cause preterm labor. I had to take Macrobid for the same thing and had the same effects, but still forced myself since it is the safest one during pregnancy."

~my~babies~momma~ replied: "The only thing that I took was Macrobid and it was fine for me. Everyone is different though. You need to take some meds because a uti can be dangerous for the baby if left untreated. I'm sure your doctor wouldn't have given it to you if it wasn't safe. Call some pharmacies and ask them if it is safe they would no better than anyone. Good luck."

VVV replied: "Both drugs are category B. I've taken both during my pregnancy (I'm normally predisposed to UTI's anyway). My baby was fine through both of them, and i was fine too. I don't know why it would make your heart race unless you have a glucose deficiency as it's just antibiotic. Generally Cat. B pregnancy drugs are really safe, with no known effects on the baby unless taken really close to your due date. There's a reason your doctor prescribed them, and it's to treat your UTI so it doesn't affect your kidneys, which will in turn affect your baby. Keep taking them. I know it's scary, I was skeptical at first too, but it's sooo much more important to just take them instead of giving your infection time to spread."

Paulette replied: "Here is a natural, non dangerous cure for any Urinary Tract Infection. Go to a health food store and get Unsweetened Cranberry Concentrate. Put a Tablespoon in a glass of cold water and drink one morning and night. Cranberry is very acidic and will clear your kidneys and get rid of the infection, in a healthy way. This will also dissolve any calcium trying to become kidney stones. It dissolves the crystals in the urine. (It even worked for my Shih Tzu when she got kidney stones.) Good Luck and Happy baby."

Jill replied: "Not treating a bladder infection is MUCH more risky than taking antibiotics. Most women do just fine on both macrobid and Cephalexin (Keflex). If you had a reaction to the Macrobid there is NO reason to believe you will also react to the Keflex. Your doctor knows what meds are safe for pregnant women. They know the real risks of taking them vs. not treating an infection. Cranberry juice and water will NOT kill bacteria. Please just trust in your doctor and take the medication that was prescribed to you. Get a second opinion if you must."

Wondering the chances of getting pregnant while on antibiotics & adderol? Ok! I have just recently started taking birth control ( loestrin 24 fe). This is the first time i have ever got on birth control. Well a week or week and a half into the first pack i started bleeding, kinda like it would be my period. Which it lasted for 8 or 9 days and my normal period only last 4. Which it kind of freaked me out at 1st for being so long but i've read people's questions and answer on this particular birth control and figured that part was just normal. But anyway, here is my question... somewhere around the middle of the second week i got streep throat and was put on the antibiotic Cephalexin 500mg. Well i was still bleeding but me and my boyfriend had sex and he did not pull out at all. Then a few days later, we had sex again and i had jus a little light bleeding still, but he did the same thing he didnt pull out again. Plus, i was also taking adderol mostly daily, but not always every day i would take the adderol. Since then, my breast are tender pretty much every day, and until just recently all i felt like doing was sleeping or just laying in bed. Also, my breast like all of a sudden got way bigger than they have ever gotten and the little bumps on my aeriola also were bigger, then a give or take a few days they kinda went down a little. Plus oh my gosh i have been like sooo much more emotional than i have ever been lately! So can anyone tell me how big of a chance it is that i may be pregnant? And if the bigger & tender breast & the extreme emotional thing im going through can be cause of being preg or are these birth control pills just really really messing with my body? Please help ease my mind! Thanks! Oh and to add to my question, after this 1st pack was finished instead of taking the iron pills i just started a new pack to stop my period because we had plans for the weekend my period would have come. So im adding this cuz i didnt know if it would make any kind of difference, but i finished the first week of the 2nd pack and im having just a lil bleeding . But very very little and its not like its really blood just kind of pinkish brownish discharge every so often. So i didnt know what that mean either! Can Some1 ..... Any1 who is actually able to answer my question or wants to answer my question to help me, Please answer me ASAP!!!!

purkat67 replied: "oh boy. antibiotics lessen the effectiveness of Birth control."

A. Feckalot replied: "i have no clue but it could be possible"

Is it possible to get pregnant while on the nuvaring? My girlfriend has been on the nuvaring since sept 2007. She put in the ring on april 2. we had unprotected sex that weekend (5-6) because her period just ended and she was on the nuvaring. Last week she was diagnosed with some type of staph infection, and put on Cephalexin (she told the Dr she was taking nuvaring) Today she just got her period - the ring was not supposed to come out until April 23 or 24. She still has it in and is not taking it out until it is supposed to come out this week. is there any reason she should get her period/bleeding BEFORE taking the ring out? Can the medication cause this bleeding? She said its like a normal period, not any lighter or heavier than normal.

jasmith001 replied: "The medication can cause that. In general, antibiotics make pills and the ring kinda useless while you are on them. So, you need to use alternate protection until she is off the antibiotics. In related news... Now that she knows what its like to wear the ring even on her period... try suggesting she wear it four weeks at a time - so she inserts the next one as she takes the old one out. A lot of girls are doing that to skip periods now - its safe to do it a couple months in a row. I find it to be a real benefit of the ring."

Cephalexin aka Kaflex? has any one taken this medication while pregnant Im 17 weeks 5 days prego. Thanks

Jill replied: "Many people have. As long as your doctor knew you were pregnant when they prescribed it, there's no problem. Not taking antibiotics when you need them is far riskier than taking them."

Kiari replied: "I've taken it for both pregnancies... Everything has been fine so far with this one.. and was great with baby #1."
